The Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

The constitution of Pakistan designates Islam to be the state religion and provides for the elimination of all forms of exploitation, and the right of individuals to be dealt with in accordance with the law. Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association vs. Bangladesh, WP No. 57 of 2010, D-/01-02-2012

The petition challenged commercial shrimp farming in the mangrove forest in the Sunderbans. It alleges that modern saline water shrimp farming caused agricultural land shrinkage, soil salinity increase, drinking water contamination and biodiversity decrease. Citing the principle of intergenerational equity, the court mandated an Environmental Impact Assessment for shrimp farms, and banned the conversion of agricultural lands, salt pan land, mangroves, wetland, forestlands and village common land into shrimp farms.
