National Climate Change Strategy, 2012 (Singapore)

The National Climate Change Strategy seeks to address the implications of climate change for Singapore now and in the future, as well as the efforts undertaken presently and in the future. It also underscores the initiatives and strategies the country is pursuing to prepare for the challenges arising from climate change. The Strategy notes that Singapore is particularly vulnerable to the consequences of climate change considering its size and location.

The Strategy sets out key principles to guide its response to climate change:

  • First, there must be long-term, integrated planning.
  • Second, pragmatic and economically sound measures must be employed.
  • Third, innovative solutions for Singapore and global markets must be developed.

The Strategy also enunciates Singapore's approach to climate-related challenges namely:

  • Reduce carbon emissions in all sectors
  • Be ready to adapt to climate change effects
  • Harness green growth opportunities
  • Forge partnerships
