Ministry of Communications and IT: Directions on Implementing Green Technologies in Telecom Sector (India)

The document was issued to all International Long Distance Service Providers. It issues directions to the licensees for implementation, including the following requirements: 

• For rural towers to be powered progressively by hybrid power (renewable energy plus grid power).
• Assessment of products, equipment and services in the telecom network with a Green Passport by the Telecommunications Engineering Center.
• Declaration of the carbon footprint of the service providers' network operations.
• Adoption of a voluntary code of practice on energy efficiency.
• Progressively induct energy efficient radio operations that reduce overall power and energy consumption.
• Limitation on total power consumption of base transceiver stations, cell sites to be powered by hybrid and renewable sources.
• Evolving a "Carbon Credit Policy," carbon emission reduction targets.
