Each of the 10 Thematic Areas includes a section on key challenges and a way forward, including actions and time-bound indicators, intended to support and complement those in the 2010-2014 Roadmap and successor national development plans.

District Court of Samarinda, Decision No. 55/Pdt.G/2013/PN.Smda., Komari et al. vs. Mayor of Samarinda et al., 2014 (Indonesia)
Residents in Samarinda, Indonesia sued the central and local governments for failing to appropriately evaluate or monitor coal mines. The residents claimed that the defendants’ lack of commitment to climate change meant they had failed to evaluate and monitor coal mining permits, resulting in severe environmental degradation. The District Court found that the government had failed to meet its statutory obligations to take climate change into account when granting permits but did not cancel permit and instead, directed the government to review its coal mining policy.

Pollution (Control) Act, No. 10 of 2013 (Vanuatu)
The Act controls the discharge and emission of pollution in Vanuatu. It imposes an obligation to take pollution control measures, particularly requiring the owner or occupier of any premises to comply with prescribed standard for the discharge of pollution, waste water and the emission of noise, odor, or electromagnetic radiation from the premises. It provides for a permit to discharge pollutants, including the application process, revocation, suspension or variation, and transfer of the permit.

The National Policy Guidelines on Vulnerable Groups in Disasters is an effort towards developing a more focused mechanism to prioritize, integrate, and address the needs and concerns of vulnerable groups. The Guidelines define vulnerability as the conditions determined by physical, social, economic, and environmental factors or processes, which increase the susceptibility of a community to the impact of hazards. It broadly categorizes four segments of society as the most vulnerable groups, namely women, children, older persons, and persons with disabilities.
