1979 Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution

The 1979 Convention on Long Range Transboundary Air Pollution seeks to limit, gradually reduce and prevent air pollution including long-range transboundary air pollution. "Long-range transboundary air pollution" is defined as air pollution whose physical origin is situated wholly or in part within the area under the national jurisdiction of one State and which has adverse effects in the area under the jurisdiction of another State at such a distance that it is not generally possible to distinguish the contribution of individual emission sources or groups of sources.

Presidential Decree No. 1586 of 1978: Environmental Impact Statement System (Philippines)

The Presidential Decree establishes an Environmental Impact Statement System founded and based on the environmental impact statement required for every proposed project and undertaking which significantly affects the quality of the environment. The decree also provides that for environmentally critical areas identified by the President, an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) shall be required. Failure to secure an ECC or violation of its terms and conditions is punishable by cancellation or suspension of the certificate or a fine.

1973 International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships and the 1978 Protocol

The International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (ICCPS 73/78) is the treaty governing the prevention of pollution of the marine environment caused by ships from accidental or routine operational cases. The 1978 Protocol to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships was enacted prior to the entry into force of the Convention, due to issues from tanker incidents in 1976 to 1977. As a result, the Protocol absorbed the parent Convention.
