The 2007 Malé Declaration of the Human Dimension of Global Climate Change is the culmination of the Small Island States Conference, convened in Maldives. The Declaration requested the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to seek the cooperation of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the United Nations Human Rights Council in assessing the human right implications of climate change.

The objective in formulating the National Action Plan to address climate change is to provide guidance to various institutions in carrying out a coordinated and integrated effort to tackle climate change. United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) is a framework agreement embodying the minimum standards for the survival, dignity and well-being of indigenous people. Considering that indigenous people are more vulnerable to climate change impacts due to their relationship with their lands, environment, territories and resources, the UNDRIP aims to mitigate vulnerability, and strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity.
