Cambodia Environmental Law Train-the-Trainers Program

The Asian Development Bank (ADB), in partnership with the National University of Management in Cambodia, conducted an in-person Train-the-Trainer (TTT) program in Siem Reap on 8-9 December 2022. This training aimed to update participating environmental law teachers with best practice concepts in pedagogy, share lessons learned on distance learning and online pedagogy innovations learned during the COVID-19 pandemic, and introduce the draft Model Environmental Law Curriculum for the Greater Mekong Subregion.

Futures of Environmental Law Teaching in Asia and the Pacific

As a culminating event under the current phase of ADB’s Developing Environmental Law Champions Program, this Regional Roundtable will be held to do a stock-take of environmental legal education in the Asia and the Pacific including an assessment of ADB’s Developing Environmental Law Champions Program. Furthermore, it will be an opportunity to collectively consider the preferred future of environmental law teaching.

Workshop on Preparation and Training Planning on Commercial Law for Law Enforcement Officers

Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Royal Academy of Judicial Professions of Cambodia (RAJP) held consultations on 30 November 2022 on training judges to adjudicate commercial law disputes. The consultation meeting formed part of an ongoing ADB technical assistance program entitled Strengthening Judicial Capacity Towards Sustainable Economic Development in Asia and the Pacific.

Cambodia Commercial Courts Symposium

ADB and Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice will hold a symposium, Operationalizing Effective and Efficient Commercial Courts – Sharing Experiences on Good Practices, Challenges and Lessons Learned in Phnom Penh on 28 November 2022 at the Raffles Hotel Le Royal.  

UNIDROIT Knowledge Sharing Event

A high-level delegation from the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) visited ADB headquarters and a special session was held with ADB staff to shed light on important international private law developments relating to private sector development, trade and sustainable development. In particular, the UNIDROIT experts covered legal instruments that can help increase access to credit especially in the agriculture sector and discuss the emergence of digital assets and their implications. ADB and UNIDROIT considered the prospects for these legal instruments in the Asia and the Pacific context and explored collaboration opportunities.

Philippine Legal Education Board 2nd Environmental Law Faculty Training

In 2021, upon the request of the LEB, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the United Nations Environment Programme, and the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law, supported a 12-week capacity development program for more than 100 legal educators from across the Philippines. This Environmental Law Teachers Online Training Program ran from September 22 to December 8, 2021, and covered curriculum development and best practice in environmental and climate change law teaching.

Symposium on Judges and the Environment: The Impact of the Stockholm Declaration in Shaping Global Environmental Law and Jurisprudence

The two-day symposium was an associated event of the United Nations Stockholm+50 Conference, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the original United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in 1972. Supreme Court Justices and senior judges gathered in Stockholm to reflect on how the Stockholm Declaration has shaped and continues to influence current law and legal thinking.

Asia-Pacific Conference on the Promotion of Gender-Responsive Judicial Systems

The conference convened justice sector actors and other stakeholders to discuss approaches to strengthening the formal justice systems’ responses to violence against women and girls (VAWG) in the Asia and the Pacific region.

Second ASEAN Environmental Law Conference - Transforming Principles into Practice

ASEAN faces many pressing environmental and social challenges that require multilayered and innovative responses. This Second ASEAN Environmental Law Conference aims to bring together ASEAN and non-ASEAN experts to share stories of successes and failures and examine potential legal, policy and community-based actions to transform principles of environmental law into practice. The Conference will also aim to foster networks and collaborative approaches to environmental problem-solving. 

Environmental Law Teachers Online Training Program: Environmental Law in the Anthropocene

This is a special eleventh session in the Environmental Law Teachers Online Training Program that ran from September to December 2021 and was hosted by the Republic of the Philippines Legal Education Board in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), IUCN Academy of Environmental Law (IUCNAEL) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).
