The State vs. Abdul Khaliq and Others, PLD 2011 Supreme Court 554 (Pakistan)
The case involved the highly publicized rape committed against Mukhtar Mai by four men, which was sanctioned by the panchayat (village council) as retribution for a trumped-up offense of her younger brother. The court held that delay in rape cases is not of much significance since victims are reluctant to go forward to report the crime to the police. On the need for corroboration, the court said that this would depend upon the facts and circumstances of each case and has to be assessed by the Court based on the entire evidence.

This case involves domestic violence allegedly committed by the appellant husband against his wife, the complainant. Citing the constitution, the court stated that the state had the obligation to deal with domestic violence, being mandated to protect both the rights of everyone to enjoy freedom and security of the person, and to bodily and psychological integrity, and the right to have their dignity respected and protected, as well as the defensive rights of everyone not to be subjected to torture in any way and not to be treated or punished in a cruel, inhuman or degrading way.
