Who We Are

The AJNE is an information and experience sharing arrangement among senior judges of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). This informal judicial network is committed to providing a dynamic forum for judicial capacity building and multilateral exchanges on environmental adjudication.

The Model Forest Act Initiative held a pivotal week of intensive work and knowledge sharing in Indonesia on 26-30 July 2024, bringing together leading experts in forest law and policy to refine the draft Model Forest Act and engage with key stakeholders.
On 11–15 March 2024, ADB's Law and Policy Reform Program collaborated with the Royal Academy for Justice of Cambodia to provide comprehensive training for judges in handling climate and environmental law litigation. This workshop marked a significant innovation in judicial education on environmental law because it focused on the craft of adjudication, complementing previous training on climate and environmental law.
On 27-29 April 2023 in Kathmandu, ADB convened the first-of-its-kind Regional Symposium on Forest and Protected Areas Legislation and Jurisprudence: Bridging Law and Science which brought together judges, lawyers, policy makers, legislators, enforcement agencies, civil society, scientists and forestry experts to discuss forest protection and sustainable forest management based on a whole-of-the-planet approach and underpinned by science and technology.
Thomas Clark, General Counsel of the Asian Development Bank addressed global environmental leaders on the need to strengthen the environmental rule of law to accelerate action in addressing the triple planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution during the Symposium on Judges and the Environment at the Stockholm+50 Conference.
