ADB Supports Training against Harassment and Bullying in the Workplace for Fiji Women Lawyers Association (FWLA)

Robyn Layton, Adjunct Professor, Justice & Society, University of South Australia and Judicial Education and Development Consultant for the ADB Law and Policy Reform Program, conducted a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) presentation to the Fiji Women Lawyers Association (FWLA) on Harassment and Bullying in the workplace. 

More than 100 participants, including the Vice President of the FWLA, Mele Rakai, attended the hybrid event which focused on the importance of raising awareness of the content of International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention 190 of 2019 on workplace violence and harassment, which Fiji had ratified.

The presentation was tailored to local issues with analysis and comparison of Fiji laws, policy, and practices. Drawing on case studies from the legal and judicial sectors, Robyn presented international data on the prevalence of workplace violence and the challenges of addressing it—noting the high number of women victims and their fears about reporting—as well as effective strategies for creating a respectful working environment, based on international best practices.
