Constitution of Bhutan

The drafting of the written Constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan was initiated on the command of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck in 2001. It is His Majesty's belief that the principles and ideals of democracy are inherently good, and a democratic system is desirable for Bhutan to advance the aspirations of a rapidly modernizing state.

Restricted Animal Husbandry Farms 1981 (By-law No. 7)

The By-law regards the establishment and management by the Ministry of Development of specialized farms for exotic breeds of livestock and poultry, imported for genetic improvement purposes, the so called "restricted animal husbandry farms". The farms shall be constructed in a way which permits the perfect isolation of the animals or birds and shall operate under a regime of strict quarantine, as provided for by article 2-6 of the By-law. Final provisions concern offences and penalties.

Disaster Management Act of Bhutan, 2013

This Act provides for the establishment and strengthening of institutional capacity for disaster management, the mainstreaming of disaster risk reduction, and for integrated and coordinated disaster management focusing on community participation.The Act provides for the establishment of the National Disaster Management Authority and defines its composition and functions.

Veterinary food and commodity inspection 1981 (By-law No. 6)

This By-law aims at protecting the health of consumers and food handlers, and preventing the spreading of animal diseases through animal products and through establishments where animal products or feed are collected and distributed.

Control of rabies and other zoonoses 1981 (By-law No. 2)

Purpose of this By-law is to protect the human population against certain diseases transmissible from animals to man, namely: rabies and echinococcosis transmitted to man from dogs, cysticercosis and tapeworm infestation transmitted through the meat of pigs and cattle and from man again to pigs and cattle, and salmonellosis, frequently transmitted to man through cross-contamination during food preparation, originating from infected raw meat. The By-law provides for the registration and licensing as well as for the vaccination of dogs. Public health authorities and municipal authorities shall cooperate in the planning and implementation of education programmes for zooneses control, with particular emphasis on cysticercosis, echinococcosis, liver fluke and salmonellosis.

Improvement of cattle and other livestock and poultry 1981 (By-law No. 1)

With a view to enhance the nutritional standards and income levels of farmers and to move towards the self-reliance of the country, this By-law stresses the importance to promote livestock rearing by improving the quality and output of cattle and other livestock and poultry, through cross-breeding and selection.

Food Act, 2005

This Act regulates the import, export and trade of food in the Kingdom of Bhutan.

Bhutan Fishing (Amendment) Rules, 1992

This Regulation regulates fishing in Bhutan. Fishing without a licence in any stream, lake, pond or river is strictly forbidden. A fishing licence shall be issued by the Head of the Department of Forestry, Divisional Forest Officers, or other persons empowered to do so by the Government. Article 4 specified periods during which fishing shall be prohibited. use of fishing methods specified in article 5 is strictly prohibited. Licence holders shall not catch more than eight fishes per day (art. 6). Remaining provisions prescribe offences and penalties and specify fishing licence fees.

Livestock Act of Bhutan 2001

An Act to regulate livestock breeding, health and production aimed at enhancing their productivity and preventing diseases so as to enhance rural income and livelihood.

Electricity Act, 2001

The purpose of this Act is to provide for the restructuring of the power supply industry and the possible participation of the private sector, and by providing mechanisms for licensing and regulating the operations of power companies.This Act provides for the establishment of the Bhutan Electricity Authority and for its powers and functions.
