The Co-Operatives Act of Bhutan, 2001

The Act enumerates the core values and principles of cooperatives: 

  • Voluntary and open membership
  • Effective member governance
  • Member economic participation
  • Autonomy and independence
  • Education
  • Training and information
  • Cooperation among co-operatives
  • Concern for the community

The Act enumerates the types and purposes of co-operatives, the requirements for their registration and rules applicable for the federation of co-operatives, union of co-operatives, and government co-operatives. It further defines how finances of co-operatives shall be managed.
