Songkrant Pongboonjun

Songkrant Pongboonjun obtained his first degree in law (LL.B) and second degree in law (LL.M, Public Law) from Thammasat University, Thailand.

He began his career as practical environmental lawyer at EnLAW Thai Foundation (Environmental public interest law office) in 2006 and worked there for 8 years. He then moved to work on regional level of environmental problem at Earth Rights International (International public interest law office) which his work focused on transboundary impact of mega-project in Mekong countries. He worked there for 2 years before moving to be a law lecturer at Faculty of Law, Chiang Mai University.

His particular area of expertise is environmental and administrative law especially the law in practice. He has long experience of representing local people in court in environmental cases and won several high profile cases in court. He is interested on the interaction of Court, lawyer and people in environmental case. His current research is about how legal mechanisms can protect Thai people from transboundary impact of coal power plant in neighboring country.
