Roger Joseph (Rocky) Guzman

Roger Joseph (Rocky) Guzman is an environmental lawyer and policy specialist with extensive background on oceans issues. He is the Deputy Director of the Asian Research Institute for Environmental Law, where he works on strengthening the rule of environmental law in Southeast Asia.

Rocky has worked and conducted research on topics from marine conservation and plastic pollution to legal reform and protecting environmental rights. He was previously the policy campaigner of Oceana in the Philippines, where he managed campaigns on sustainable fisheries and ocean transparency. He has also worked on various marine environmental issues with the United Nations Environment Programme and the Asian Development Bank. 

He is part of the Sustainable Ocean Alliance Youth Policy Advisory Council for Southeast Asia and is an inaugural member of the Ocean Health Youth Council of the World Economic Forum’s Friends of Ocean Action. He is also a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law.

Rocky obtained his degrees in law and political science from the University of the Philippines and is a Master of Environmental Policy candidate at Duke University.
