Maria Emilynda Benosa

Maria Emilynda Jeddahlyn Pia V. Benosa is a Law Reform Specialist for the Institute for Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea at the University of the Philippines. She recently obtained her Master of Laws (LL.M.) in National Security Law, and a Certificate in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution, from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., under a Fulbright Foreign Student Program grant. Prior to this, she held the Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe Fellowship at the United Nations Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, where she worked on issues of cross-border marine spatial planning as a means of managing territorial disputes in the South China Sea. Besides ocean governance, Ms. Benosa’s other research interests include the Use of Force, the Protection of Human Rights during States of Emergency, and Investor-State Arbitration. In 2018, Ms. Benosa also joined the University of the Philippines College of Law’s Faculty as a Professorial Lecturer in Public International Law and Local Government.
