On the Margins of Development - Asia Pacific LGBT Inclusion Poverty Reduction and Prosperity
Gender equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) people is usually viewed through a human rights lens, but equality and inclusion of LGBT people are also important economic development issues. This seminar, involving a panel of experts, explored some of these issues and their implications for development work in the Asia and Pacific region.
This recording shows the proceedings from the seminar held on 5 December in ADB HQ. Economics professor, Lee Badgett, highlighted the economic cost of LGBT stigma and exclusion at the personal, corporate, country, and cross-country level. A panel of experts comprising the Philippines' first transgender legislator Geraldine Roman, LGBT Chamber of Commerce's Brian Tenorio, and ADB Office of the General Counsel's Jogendra Ghimire spoke at the event, attended by about 200 participants.
