ADB's Law and Policy Reform team met with the newly appointed Chancellor Rosmari Carandang (2nd female to be Chancellor) and her team from the Philippine Judicial Academy (PHILJA) and representatives from the Supreme Court to discuss capacity building of special commercial court judges and inclusion of courses on environment and climate change into the judicial education program. ADB's intervention is timely due to the greater number of commercial courts and the PHILJA is in the process of completing the bench book on commercial laws which needs implementation support. The Chancellor also noted the need to integrate environment and climate change issues into the commercial law programs with increasing cases against corporates and financial institutions. She also informed the ADB's team about the need to update the rules of procedures for environmental cases.
