Vanuatu Framework for Climate Services, 2016

The goal of the Vanuatu Framework for Climate Services (VFCS) is to ensure that climate services for Vanuatu are at par with world-class standards, sustainable, available to end-users, and effective in assisting people to manage and adapt to climate variability and change. The framework of the VFCS encompasses the following: (i) the linkages with existing global, regional and national frameworks, strategic plans and policies; (ii) the capacities and capabilities of both the providers and receivers of climate information; (iii) the climate products and services currently being provided and ideas for what products still need to be developed; and (iv) the mechanisms and requirements for improving the communication, dissemination and use of climate information. It identifies that the greatest and most pressing need is for the development of tailored climate products, and improvement to and formalization of mechanisms for communicating and disseminating climate information. A number of key recommendations are articulated in the report, on the basis of which is a roadmap for strengthening climate services is provided.
