Urban Development Authority Act, 1984 (Sri Lanka)

The Act amends the 1978 law which established the Urban Development Authority. The amendments include the empowerment of the Authority to enter into joint venture agreements with any person in or outside of Sri Lanka. It also includes a new section on Planning and Procedure, on the preparation of development plans with a view to promoting and regulating the integrated planning and physical development of lands and buildings in a development area. It also amends the provision on offenses and penalties, increasing the maximum amount of fine, as well as adding an imposable daily fine if the offense is continued after conviction. It also provides for the specific offense of commencing or undertaking a development activity without or contrary to a permit.
