Update of Nationally Determined Contribution of Maldives, 2020
In the Updated Nationally Determined Contribution of Maldives, it targets 26% reduction of emissions in 2030 (under a BaU) in a conditional manner, in the context of sustainable development, supported and enabled by availability of financial resources, technology transfer and capacity building. It further aims to reach net-zero by 2030 provided that it secures extensive support and assistance from the international community. The Maldivian government will develop a plan with consultation of development partners, donors and other stakeholders, mapping out the net-zero pathway. It also aims to enhance the adaptation efforts outlined in its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution submitted in 2016, namely enhancing food security, infrastructure resilience, protection of public health from vector-borne and waterborne diseases, enhancing water security, coastal protection, safeguarding coral reef and its biodiversity, protection of the tourism industry, protection of tuna fisheries, and early warning and systematic observation.
