Tourism Act of 2009, Republic Act No. 9593 (Philippines)

The Act defined the roles of relevant government agencies with respect to the implementation of the Act, including the following:

  • Department of Tourism (DOT)
  • Office of Tourism and Development Planning
  • Research and Information
  • Office of Industry Manpower Development
  • Office of Tourism Resource Generation, as well as the establishment of regional offices

The DOT is mandated to prescribe and regulate the standards for the operation of the tourism industry, including the accreditation standards of tourism enterprises. The Act also defined zones which may be designated as tourism enterprise zones (TEZ), which shall be regulated and supervised by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority. TEZ operators and registered tourism enterprises will also be granted fiscal and non-fiscal incentives as enumerated in the Act.
