Strategic National Action Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation, 2010-2020, Provisional Draft (Maldives)

The Strategic National Action Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation aims to build resilience of the nation and the island communities to disasters. Since the costs of disasters in terms of lost lives, property and productivity are expected to be exacerbated by climate change impacts during the coming decades, the approach of the action plan will address both concerns. Climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction have similar aims and may utilize the same tools that have proven effective over the years. The action plan is therefore designed to promote collaboration among policy makers, experts and practitioners of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in the country for the development of a comprehensive risk management approach. The action plan aims to build resilience of the nation and the island communities to disasters by sustaining progress made, by consolidating learned best practices, and by incorporating risk reduction into the strategy for decentralization. Harmonized with the policies, plans and sustainable development strategy, it also identifies a consolidated set of programs/projects that can be undertaken.
