Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015 - 2030

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 is a voluntary and non-binding international instrument on disaster risk reduction. The Sendai Framework intends to achieve, within a period of 15 years, the substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health, and in the economic, physical, social, cultural and environmental assets of persons, businesses, communities and countries. It seeks to implement integrated and inclusive measures that prevent and reduce hazard exposure and disaster vulnerability, as well as increase response and recovery preparedness. It sets seven global targets by 2030, namely:

  1. Substantially reducing global disaster mortality.
  2. Substantially reducing the number of affected people globally.
  3. Reducing direct disaster economic loss in relation to global gross domestic product.
  4. Substantially reduce disaster damage to critical infrastructure and disruption of basic services (e.g., health and educational facilities).
  5. Substantially increase the number of countries with national and local disaster risk reduction strategies by 2020.
  6. Substantially enhance international cooperation to developing countries through adequate and sustainable support.
  7. Substantially increase the availability of and access to multi-hazard early warning systems and disaster risk information and assessments to people.
