Samoa's Intended Nationally Determined Contribution, 2016

Samoa, in its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC), is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions from the electricity subsector by adopting a 100% renewable energy target for electricity generation through to the year 2025. This is conditional on reaching 100% renewable electricity generable in 2017, and receiving international assistance. The assistance required to reach this target include human, technological and financial resources. Further, economy-wide emission reductions are conditional on receiving external financial assistance from the international community. The INDC covers the energy sector and carbon dioxide. The INDC also notes that Samoa does not currently use market mechanisms but is willing to pursue the potential of markets where possible.
