Renewable and Alternative Energy Development Plan for 25 Percent in 10 Years 2012–2021 (Thailand)
The Renewable and Alternative Energy Development Plan identifies the framework and direction of Thailand renewable energy development. The objectives of the Plan are:
- To capably develop renewable energy as one of the country's major energy sources to sustainably replace fossil fuel and oil import for the future
- To strengthen the country's energy security
- To create using renewable energy at community level as an integrated green community
- To support the domestic renewable energy technology production industry
- To research, develop and promote Thailand's renewable energy technology for competitive capability in the international market.
It focuses on the following strategies to promote renewable and alternative energy development to reach 25 percent of total energy production in 10 years:
- Promoting the community to collaborate in broadly producing and consuming renewable energy
- Adjusting the incentives for investment from the private sector appropriate with the situation
- Amending the laws and regulations which do not benefit renewable energy development
- Improving the infrastructure of transmission line, power distribution line, including a development towards Smart Grid System
- Public relations and building up comprehensive knowledge for the people
- Promoting research work as a mechanism to develop the integrated renewable energy industry
