Regional Symposium on Forest and Protected Areas Legislation and Jurisprudence: Bridging Law and Science Post-Symposium Booklet

Regional Symposium on Forest and Protected Areas Legislation and Jurisprudence Post-Symposium Booklet

This Post-Symposium Booklet is based on the proceedings of the Regional Symposium on Forest and Protected Areas Legislation and Jurisprudence: Bridging Law and Science, held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from 27–29 April 2023. The Asian Development Bank co-organized this event with the National Judicial Academy of Nepal, the Global Judicial Institute on the Environment, and the World Commission on Environmental Law. The Judicial Academies of Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka supported the symposium.

The booklet is a volume of symposium presentations and discussions about forestry law and judicial implementation challenges and solutions in Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. In line with the objectives of the symposium, the booklet was developed to strengthen judicial implementation of these laws, promote capacity building and information exchange in judicial decision-making, enhance the legal and scientific knowledge of judges on forest and protected areas legislation, and promote natural environmental sciences in judicial decision making. It can serve as a valuable resource for decision-makers in the judiciary, executive, and legislature, providing insights into the complexities of forest and protected areas laws and the underlying scientific principles.
