Public Sector Sustainability Plan, 2017 (Singapore)

The Public Sector Sustainability Plan of Singapore sets out the Government’s roadmap towards achieving environmental sustainability. It provides for the main components guiding its Sustainability Plan:

  1. Resource Management Framework
  2. Capability Building and Resources
  3. Environmental Sustainability Targets
  4. Transparency and Disclosure

The Plan provides for environmental sustainability targets for reduction in electricity consumption, reduction in water consumption, construction and retrofitting of green buildings, waste reduction, and adoption of solar energy.

The Government aims to achieve the following:

  • Electricity savings of 15.0% by FY2020 from its baseline electricity consumption in FY2013
  • 5.0% improvement in the Water Efficiency Index (WEI) by FY2020 from the baseline WEI in FY2013
  • the Green Mark under the Building Control Act for both new and existing government buildings

For solar adoption, this will gradually be rolled out to more agencies – many of which are currently studying the potential of adopting solar energy on their premises. A target for solar adoption by the public sector will similarly be set in the future.
