Palau Energy Act of 2015

The avowed intent and purpose of the Palau Energy Act is to establish a comprehensive national framework to improve energy security by diversifying the supply of energy to the people of Palau, including renewable energy, and promoting progressive policy development and implementation by a more robust, cost-effective, and efficient Energy Administration. The Act established an Energy Administration as a separate entity within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Industries and Commerce. 

The general duties and powers of the Energy Administration include: 

  1. Monitoring all energy-related matters and preparing the Palau Annual Energy Report.
  2. Providing advice on matters of energy sector policy and implementation to the President, Minister, and any energy-related institution.
  3. Facilitating energy-related grants in the energy sector.
  4. Educating the public concerning energy-related matters.
  5. Coordinating maintenance contracts for solar-facilities owned by the Government of Palau.
  6. Promulgating regulations necessary to carry out the provisions of this Act.
