Pakistan Climate Change Act 2017

The Pakistan Climate Change Act 2017 was enacted to meet Pakistan's obligations under international conventions relating to climate change and address the effects of climate change. It establishes the Pakistan Climate Change Council (Council) and the Pakistan Climate Change Authority (Authority). The Council is essentially empowered to coordinate and supervise enforcement of the Act's provisions. The Authority, on the other hand, has the basic function of formulating adaptation and mitigation policies, plans, programmes, projects and measures designed to address the effects of climate change and meet Pakistan's international obligations under international conventions and agreements relating to climate change and within the framework of a national climate change policy, as may be approved by the Federal Government from time to time. The Minister-in-Charge may also establish Advisory Committees to assist the Authority in the discharge of functions. The Climate Change Fund was also established for expenditure incurred by the Authority in the exercise of its functions.
