Oil Pollution Compensation Act of 2007, Republic Act No. 9483 (Philippines)

The Act imposes strict liability for oil pollution by the imposition of payment for damages. It provides for the exempting circumstances when no liability shall be imposed and persons exempted from claims for compensation for oil pollution damage. The Act requires that the Maritime Industry Authority shall require all registered owners of the ship or the persons owning the ship in the absence of a registration, to maintain an insurance or other financial security for pollution damage. An action for compensation due to pollution damage which occurred in the Philippine territory may be filed with the Regional Trial Courts.
