Oil and Gas Regulation 2002 (Amended as of 2006), Papua New Guinea

The Oil and Gas Regulations provide guidelines with respect to health, safety and other operations standards for project operations in the oil and gas industry. They also contain environmental, engineering, mechanical, geological and electrical guidelines for the industry. The Regulations provide for proper waste disposal in a safe and environmentally suitable manner. They also contain provisions in case of escape of substances from a pipeline, requiring the persons in charge to safeguard human life and minimize pollution of the area, while minimizing the loss of the substance. They further regulate, among others, the handling of radioactive substances, flammable substances, and explosives in the course of operations. The Regulations further impose certain requirements on the use of medicinal and therapeutic drugs in the site of operations, so as not to impair a worker's ability to perform duties safely.
