Nauru’s Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, 2010 (Nauru)

Nauru's Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2010 is a key element of the National Environment and Development Management Strategies. The Strategy envisions that Nauru's biological ang genetic resources are protected, conserved and sustainably managed to emphasize the desired outcome of a future where individual, community, business and government partnerships contribute to a sustainable quality of life for all Nauruans. It sets out an assessment of the condition of Nauru's biological resources, and the actions taken to control their degradation and attain sustainable development. Chapter 1 of the Strategy introduces the rationale for the Strategy and relates it to the Convention on Biodiversity and Nauru's own plans and proposals. Chapter 2 sets out Nauru's vision, guiding principles, and goals on biodiversity and conservation. Chapter 3 discusses the strategic framework for biodiversity management with thematic areas and accompanying Goals, Objectives and Actions. The thematic areas include Mainstreaming Biodiversity, Ecosystem Management, Species Management, Community, Access and Benefit Sharing from Use of Genetic Resources, Biosecurity, Agrobiodiversity, and Financial Resources and Mechanisms. Chapter 4 deals with the implementation and monitoring structures for implementing the Strategy.
