National Sustainable Development Strategy, 2009 (Myanmar)

The National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) is intended to aid countries in attaining sustainable development. Myanmar's NSDS covers three pillars, namely environment, economic and social aspects of the country. Myanmar's NSDS vision is "Wellbeing and Happiness for Myanmar People." Three goals identified by the NSDS are:

  • Goal 1: Sustainable Management of Natural Resources
  • Goal 2: Integrated Economic Development 
  • Goal 3: Sustainable Social Development

A course of action is proposed to support implementation arrangements for NSDS in Myanmar with a view to support the attainment of the NSDS vision and the strategic objectives. Actions proposed fall within the following: 

  • Policy framework
  • Advocacy, awareness raising and education
  • Capacity‐building
  • Adequate financing and technology
  • Monitoring and evaluation
