National Strategy for Climate Change Adaptation, 2013 (People's Republic of China)

The National Strategy for Climate Change Adaptation sets out guidelines and principles for climate change adaptation, as well as identified adaptation goals, for the period of 2013-2020, mainly:

  • Improving overall adaptation capacity
  • Fulfilling key adaptation tasks
  • Forming regional adaptation setups

In relation to specific areas, the strategy proposes key tasks for infrastructure, agriculture, water resources, coastal area and waters, forestry and ecological systems, human health and tourism and other industries. The strategy also proposes distinct climate strategies for urban zones, agricultural zones and ecological security zones. The strategy focuses on infrastructure for urban zone, sufficiency of supply of products for agricultural zone, and restoration of vegetation for the ecological security zones. The Strategy enumerates the measures to be implemented within the identified timeframe including protection of water resources, minimizing soil erosion, strengthening disaster prevention, early warning, information sharing mechanisms, ocean disaster monitoring, and coastal restoration.
