National Policy of Combating Climate Change, 2007 (Samoa)

The Policy sets out Samoa's roadmap to addressing climate change. It outlines a national framework to mitigate the effects of climate change, as well as effectively and sustainably adapt to its impacts. The goal of the Policy is to enhance Samoa's response to the impacts of climate change in support of national sustainable development efforts.

The Policy identifies certain objectives to attain its avowed goal:

  • Promote public awareness and improve stakeholder understanding of the causes and effects of climate change
  • Strengthen the management of climate change information
  • Build capacity on effective national responses to climate change
  • Implement mitigation measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions causing climate change
  • Implement adaptation measures to protect Samoa from the impacts of climate change
  • Establish a regulatory framework to facilitate the national responses to climate change

Corresponding strategies are also identified alongside the objectives. The Ministry of National Resources and Environment is mandated as the implementing agency of the Policy.
