National Energy Policy (Indonesia)

The National Energy Policy of Indonesia is the policy on energy management based on the principles of fairness, sustainability, and environmental soundness aimed to create energy independence and national energy security. 

The National Energy Policy shall consist of main policies and supporting policies. The main policies include:

  1. Availability of energy to meet the national demand
  2. Priority of energy development
  3. Utilization of national energy resources
  4. National energy reserves

The supporting policies include: 

  • Energy conservation, energy resources conservation, and energy diversification
  • Environment and safety
  • Pricing, subsidy, and energy incentives
  • Infrastructure and access of people to energy and energy industry
  • Research, development and application of energy technology
  • Institutional and funding matters

The policy covers the period from 2014 up to 2050. It is set as a guide to provide the direction of national energy management in order to achieve energy independence and national energy security to support the national sustainable development.
