National Energy Development Strategy up to 2020, with 2050 Vision, PM Decision No. 1855/QDTTg, 2007 (Viet Nam)
The National Energy Strategy sets Viet Nam's energy development strategy orientations up to 2020, with a vision toward 2020. It provides overall objectives for the same period to assure national energy security, and develop an independent and self-reliant economy. It also aims to:
- Provide adequate supply of high quality energy for socioeconomic development
- Exploit and use domestic energy resources in a rational and efficient manner;
- Diversify forms of investment and business in the energy domain and develop an energy market conducive to fair competition
- boost the development of new and renewable energies, bioenergy and nuclear power in order to meet the requirements of socio-economic development, especially in deep lying, remote, border areas and offshore islands
- develop the energy sector in a quick, efficient and sustainable manner in association with environmental protection
Specific objectives in furtherance of the overall objectives are also identified, as well as development directions for the electricity industry, coal industry, petroleum industry, and new and renewable energies. It also enunciates policies on assurance of national energy security, energy prices, and on economical and efficient use of energy.
