National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework 2017−2030, 2017 (Papua New Guinea)

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework of Papua New Guinea (PNG) aims to achieve the substantial reduction of disaster risk and increased resilience of communities in PNG. To bring about this outcome, the Framework sets the goals of reducing existing and preventing new disaster risk through the implementation of integrated structural and non-structural risk reduction measures that prevent and reduce hazard exposure and vulnerability to disasters, increase preparedness for response and recovery capacity, and thus strengthen resilience.

The framework identifies seven national targets by 2030, namely:

  1. Reducing disaster mortality
  2. Reducing the number of people affected by disasters
  3. Reducing directed disaster economic loss in relation to national gross domestic product
  4. Reducing disaster damage to critical infrastructures and disruption of basic services
  5. Increasing the number of provinces with provincial and local disaster reduction strategies
  6. Enhancing international cooperation
  7. Increasing the availability and access to multi-hazard early warning systems and disaster risk information and assessments
