National Climate Change Policy 2012–2017, 2012 (Solomon Islands)

This National Climate Change Policy (NCCP) articulates the strategy of Solomon Islands to address climate change impact from 2012 to 2017. Its avowed vision is a resilient, secure and sustainable Solomon Islands responding to climate change. Its mission is to enhance adaptation, disaster risk reduction and mitigation capacity throughout the Solomon Islands that contributes to increased resilience and achievement of sustainable development goals. The objectives of the NCCP are to provide a guiding framework to integrate climate considerations and support the implementation and achievement of Solomon Islands National Development Strategy and other regional and international policies and frameworks, and to guide the government and its partners' efforts in ensuring that the people, natural environment and economy of the country are resilient and able to adapt to the predicted impacts of climate change, and that the country benefits from clean and renewable energy, energy efficiency and mitigation technologies that improve people’s livelihoods and the national economy, is environmentally sustainable and contributes to global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. The Policy articulates broad policy commitments and policy guiding principles. On a more granular level, the Policy discusses policy outcomes and their corresponding policy directives and strategies.
