National Agricultural Mechanization Policy, 2020 (Bangladesh)

The National Agricultural Mechanization Policy, 2020 of Bangladesh envisions the transition to efficient, profitable and commercial agriculture through agriculture mechanization and ensuring sustainable food and nutrition security.

Its objectives include:

  • Expediting the use of cost-effective and profitable agricultural machinery at the farmer level.
  • Increasing productivity by increasing the skills of agricultural labor, use of mechanical, electrical and renewable energy in the land for increasing crop yield.
  • Strengthen and develop activities on agricultural machinery.
  • Expedite agricultural mechanization by providing easy and specialized loan facilities to importers, manufacturers, rental machinery service providers and farmers.

In particular, the use of solar pump irrigation for crop producing and solar driers for drying vegetables will be encouraged, while the combined use of solar and bio has energy will be encouraged to generate electricity, i.e., building mini-grid at farm level.
