National Adaptation Programme of Action, Updated Version 2009 (Bangladesh)

The updated National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA) 2009 has maintained the format of the NAPA 2005 which essentially discusses the potential vulnerabilities of Bangladesh and the adaptation measures that need to be taken, as well as the relationship of these measures with the development goals. The updated NAPA has also incorporated findings of studies on impacts, vulnerabilities and adaptation needs assessment carried out over the last few years since the preparation of NAPA 2005. It became clearer that many adverse impacts related to climate change will exacerbate many of the existing problems and natural hazards the country faces. It is also reported that there are various coping mechanisms, formal and informal, are already in place. It then identified future coping strategies and mechanisms and possible adaptation measures.
