Nation Wide Integrated Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Policy, 2013 (Federated States of Micronesia)
The Nation Wide Integrated Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Policy is grounded on the policy to achieve economic growth and self-reliance within a framework of sustainable development that seeks to maximize opportunities presented by climate change and minimize the risks associated with all slow and rapid-onset natural and human-induced hazards, including those associated with climate change. Its goal is to promote development that proactively integrates the management of disaster and climate-related hazards by investing in disaster risk management, climate change adaptation and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction in pursuit of a safe, resilient and sustainable future for our country. With its implementation, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) seeks to achieve strategic outcomes in the following sectors: economic resilience; food, water and energy security; infrastructure and settlements; waste management and sanitation; health and social protection; and education. In order to achieve such outcomes, the FSM will invest in strategic objectives including capacity building and public awareness, disaster risk management, climate change adaptation, GHG emission reduction and enabling environment.
