Myanmar's Intended Nationally Determined Contributions, 2017
Myanmar's Intended Nationally Determined Contributions committed to undertake mitigation actions in line with its sustainable development needs as its contribution to global action to reduce future emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs). Specifically, Myanmar aims to increase forest land by 30% of national land area for the Reserved Forest and Protected Public Forest, and by 10% for Protected Area Systems. Myanmar also aims to increase the share of hydroelectric generation to 9.4 GW by 2030, achieve rural electrification through the use of at least 30% renewable sources to generate electricity supplies, mitigate GHG emissions by improving efficiency to realize a 20% electricity saving potential by 2030, and to distribute approximately 260,000 energy efficient cookstoves between 2016 to 2031. In terms of adaptation, in line with the priorities established by the National Adaptation Plan of Action and considering priorities that are emerging, the Government of Myanmar is implementing a series of actions both at the policy, legal and programme levels. These actions will facilitate adaptation to climate change in the short, medium and long-term, through both its national budget and with its international support.
