Merchant Shipping (Civil Liability and Compensation for Oil Pollution) Order, 2008 (Brunei Darussalam)

The Act defines the civil liability imposed upon the owner of the ship which has caused any oil discharge or escape of oil from a ship, or when there arises a grave and imminent threat of damage being caused outside a ship by the contamination which might result if there is a discharge or escape of oil from the ship. 

It also provides other rules on civil liability for oil pollution including restriction, limitation and concurrence in liabilities. The Act further provides the requirement of compulsory insurance against liability for oil pollution and established the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund.
