Mainstreaming Biodiversity-Friendly Agricultural Practices in Protected Areas; Department of Agriculture, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources Joint Administrative Order No. 2021-01 (Philippines)

Biodiversity-Friendly Agricultural Practices (BDFAP) are practices that use traditional and modern technologies and agriculture, fishery, agroforestry, and multi-cropping management techniques to contribute to the maintenance of ecosystem resilience. The Order enumerates the principles of the BDFAP: 

  • Balance of production and conservation
  • Sustainable use of resources
  • Sensitivity to local needs
  • Responsiveness to ecosystems requirements
  • Responsiveness to biodiversity conservation goals
  • Multiplicity of biodiversity benefits

The Order enumerates the strategies and approaches for mainstreaming the same, and the technical considerations which may be incorporated into BDFAP according to whether it shall be applied to terrestrial farm, aquaculture or aquatic farm, and marine and coastal ecosystems. It further enumerates the general considerations for the implementation of BDFAP within protected areas and forest lands.
