Law on Energy, 2007 (Indonesia)

The Law on Energy is governed by the principle that energy is managed on the basis of utility, rationality, efficiency, value added improvement, sustainability, people welfare, living environment preservation, national tenacity and integrity principles by prioritizing the national capability. The Law provides that energy resources of fossil, geothermal, large scale hydro and nuclear energy sources are controlled by the state and utilized for the maximum welfare of the people. Furthermore, any energy management activity is obliged to prioritize the usage of environmental friendly technology and meets the conditions required by legislation on environment, occupational safety and health. The Law also contains provisions governing the National Energy Policy, National Energy Council and Regional Energy Plan. The Law also mandates that anyone has the right to obtain energy and people, either individually or as a group, can have a role in the composing of the national energy general plan and regional energy general plan, and energy development for public interest.
