Israt Batool vs. Government of Punjab, 2018 PLC (C.S.) Note 165 (Pakistan)

The case involved the recruitment policy for educators that did not allow females to apply for appointment in boys’ schools. The female petitioners contended that they possess the necessary qualifications and have the ability to compete with male candidates. The Court found that the respondents were not able to prove how the female candidates were unfit for the advertised positions as educators in the boys’ school. The Court reasoned that gender stereotyping, classification based on stereotype roles, or social expectations tantamount to discrimination are not permissible under the Constitution.
