Health Research and Development Act of 1998, Republic Act No. 8503 (Philippines)

The National Institute of Health's objectives include the promotion of science and technology research and development in the field of health, study groups and research programs, and the establishment of mechanisms for dissemination and utilization of research outputs, among others. It enumerates the powers and functions of the Institute to establish research programs on health promotion, and disease prevention and control, among others. 

The Institute shall establish the following component programs: 

  • Health product cluster
  • Health promotion
  • Disease prevention and control
  • Gerontology and disabilities cluster
  • Social and humanistic studies
  • Health care system studies
