Gulam Farid alias Farida vs. The State, PLD 2006 SC 53 (Pakistan)

The court held that the tabulation of offenses under the Code of Criminal Procedure, being unambiguous, removes uncertainty and must be taken as a complete and comprehensive guide for the compounding of offenses. The legislature has laid down the guide for determining the classes of offenses which concern individuals versus those which are committed against the interests of the State. The courts must not go bend the test laid down by legislature and substitute it with its own test. Moreover, compounding of non-compoundable offense is against public policy.
