Frictionless Justice for Gender-Based Violence

Frictionless Justice for Gender-Based Violence

Fiji has one of the highest rates of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the world. To strengthen access to justice for GBV, the Fijian Government should consider addressing four barriers (cultural, informational, institutional and procedural) currently deterring victims from accessing justice in the formal and informal justice systems. A reform agenda can be initiated by (i) increasing the engagement with the formal justice system by GBV victims, (ii) increasing the capacity of the formal justice system to support current and increased engagement by GBV victims, and (iii) safeguarding GBV victims within the formal justice towards effective access to justice.
